Day 1 – Moderate – 7-10 mi/12-16 km
Our group will meet at the hotel in Bozeman, Montana before traveling to the Lone Star Trailhead just south of Old Faithful. From here it’s an easy walk along the Firehole River to Lone Star Geyser. This is one of the largest cone-shaped geysers in the park and eruptions take place every 3 hours. From here we’ll continue along the Shoshone Lake Trail south, crossing the Continental Divide at Grants Pass (8,000 ft.). We’ll spend the night at one of two campsites depending on their availability (8G1 or 8R5). Both provide access to the remote Shoshone Geyser Basin with 8R5 located on the shores of Shoshone Lake. Shoshone Geyser Basin boasts the highest concentration of geysers in the world.

Day 2 – Moderate – 6-7 mi/9-11 km
On day two we’ll continue moving south along the Bechler River Trail climbing to the highest point on the trail at 8,500 ft. We’ll have the option of camping at one of three sites; 9D1 Ferris Fork, 9D2 Gregg Fork or 9D3 Douglas Knob. Again, campsite availability will dictate our distances for the day. We’ll visit the hot spring known as Mr. Bubbles for an afternoon soak.

Day 3 – Easy – 7-9 mi/11-14 km
On day three we’ll enter the Bechler Canyon and begin hiking along the Bechler River. The trail passes a number of prominent features, including; Twister Falls, Three River Junction, the Cascades, Treasure Island as well as Iris and Colonnade Falls. Campsite options include; 9B4, 9B5, 9B6 and 9B7.

Day 4 – Easy – 5-9 mi/8-14 km
On day four we’ll enter the northern edge of the Bechler Meadows. With a little luck we’ll be able to see the Grand Tetons on the horizon to the southeast. Here we’ll change directions and head north toward our final campsite near Dunanda and Silver Scarf Falls. Another hot spring at the base of Dunanda Falls gives the opportunity to soak in Boundary Creek.

Day 5 – Easy – 8 mi/12.8 km
Our last day is an easy hike through open meadows and lodgepole pine forests to the trailhead at the Bechler Ranger Station. Here we’ll meet our shuttle which will take us back to the town of West Yellowstone and the starting point for this 40 mile trek. Our drive time will be approximately 2-2 1/2 hours.
