Cascada Expediciones

Cascada Expediciones was founded in 1991 by university friends Javier Lopez, Yerko Ivelic, and Nani Astorga, who studied tourism and engineering, and wanted to create a unique company that showed off the best of Chile through thrilling and immersive adventures for its clients. The mission has been a resounding success, and in 2016, Cascada proudly celebrated 25 years of helping create wonderful, lifelong memories. Cascada’s pride and joy is the EcoCamp Patagonia, an award-winning and critically and publicly lauded sustainable hotel located in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park. First opened in 2001 and composed of eco-friendly and completely sustainable geodesic domes, EcoCamp was the first hotel of its kind in the world, and since then, has become an industry leader in sustainable lodging, inspiring the opening of eight other similar hotels worldwide. EcoCamp not only provides a comfortable oasis in the park where visitors can connect with nature while still enjoying modern amenities and delicious meals, but also has exciting and diverse excursion options for everyone!

Day 1, Central Andes, Chile
We depart from your hotel in Santiago in a comfortable, air-conditioned van to begin the journey to El Cajon de Maipo, following a curvy mountain road with beautiful views of rushing rivers, verdant vineyards and rock formations going by out the window. Our first stop is at San Jose de Maipo, a traditional town declared the regional capital, to appreciate the quaint architecture, and purchase snacks for the hike.
We then climb back aboard the vehicle and continue onward, winding our way further into the Andes, soon arriving at El Morado National Monument where the hike will take place. We start by following the guide through a diverse range of natural tableaus, encountering steep rocky inclines and lush meadows of blooming wildflowers. Be sure to look skyward at the jagged snow-capped spires of the Andes and keep your eyes peeled for graceful condors gliding up above.
Finally, after a 2.5-hour ascent, we arrive at the foot of the glacier, where we pause to eat a boxed lunch of sandwiches, snacks, and fruits and enjoy the views of the San Francisco Glacier, lagoon, and surrounding mountains. Then, we return the way we came and head to the therapeutic healing waters of the Baños Colinas, where we relax in the steaming hot water to soothe ourselves and our muscles after the long hike. After a relaxing respite in the springs, we return to the vehicle and sink into the comfortable seats for the journey back to Santiago.
