Cascada Expediciones

Cascada Expediciones was founded in 1991 by university friends Javier Lopez, Yerko Ivelic, and Nani Astorga, who studied tourism and engineering, and wanted to create a unique company that showed off the best of Chile through thrilling and immersive adventures for its clients. The mission has been a resounding success, and in 2016, Cascada proudly celebrated 25 years of helping create wonderful, lifelong memories. Cascada’s pride and joy is the EcoCamp Patagonia, an award-winning and critically and publicly lauded sustainable hotel located in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park. First opened in 2001 and composed of eco-friendly and completely sustainable geodesic domes, EcoCamp was the first hotel of its kind in the world, and since then, has become an industry leader in sustainable lodging, inspiring the opening of eight other similar hotels worldwide. EcoCamp not only provides a comfortable oasis in the park where visitors can connect with nature while still enjoying modern amenities and delicious meals, but also has exciting and diverse excursion options for everyone!

Day 1, Tara Salt Flats Full Day Extension
Atacama, Chile
Today, landscapes, angular rock formations, lagoons, volcanoes, and varied wildlife will be our focus. Early in the morning we set off east along the Paso Jama route. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for the bird-life: vicuñas, flamingos, and ducks which call the Río Quepiaco home. Soon, views of nearby volcanoes come into play; particularly the powerful Licancabur, thought of as the protector of the Atacamenian people. Our route continues towards the heavens until we reach 4,700m above sea level, a point at which the multicolored earth is home to a variety of subjects – bird-life, salt flats, and textured “bofedal” wetlands all vying for our lens’ attention. The paved road ends at another of today’s prizes: the Monjes de la Pacana rock formations, which we’ll capture before heading overland to the dream-like Salar de Tara. Here, we’ll stop to have lunch. Our afternoon continues on via the Salar de Atacama, along with more views of Volcanoes Licancabur, Juriques, and Toco – and hopefully a flock of llamas!
At the end of the day you will be transferred back to your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.
